A few introductions

We’ve had four new starters at trutap this month, so thought it was about time we introduced them…

Tom Grace joins the operations team, bringing bags of server support experience from stints at ESP, Bleckfield and Citigroup. In his spare time Tom dons a superhero outfit and leads a one-man crusade against phishers. Also in ops, Rayyan Sameer joins us from the mobile gaming world to take up a role as our new QA technician. Rayyan’s a veteran of mobile and tech community events such as Momo London and First Tuesday, but if there’s no event on he’s likely to be travelling, reading or honing his skills flying FS-X.

Over in the product team, Rob Fallon is our shiny new product manager. Rob previously spent several years in a variety of creative, content and marketing roles for iTouch, made4mobile and Mobestar, while being bitten by dogs eight times. Should a wild canine ever run loose in the office, we’re confident he’ll take one for the team.

And last but not least Paul Mooney has been an engineer for 14 years, creating software that has helped decode genomes and build nuclear power plants. In case you haven’t guessed it, he’s joined the engineering team. Paul likes eating chillies, and growing chillies to replace the ones he’s just eaten. Paul also looks after the Grendon village web site - the local wiki for local people.

Shattering the mobile experience There’s been a lot of activity around mobile software platforms and application development this week. Microsoft has made its Silverlight web platform available on some of Nokia’s phones, Google has revealed that its own Gears platform can now be used on Windows Mobile devices and Apple is getting ready to launch its software development kit for the iPhone.....

Pluggin trutap in Brussels

We are all excited as being selected as one the startups to enter the Plugg Start-Ups Rally 2008.

Plugg is a one day conference focused on raising global awareness for European start-ups in the Web / Mobile 2.0 field. In combination with an impressive list of speakers, one by one visionaries and/or field experts from a variety of industries and all with ties to Europe - there will be a place for 20 hot start-ups to showcase their business ideas and realizations. One of them will walk away with the Plugg Start-Up of the Year Award.

Plugg has an interesting variation on the Techcrunch40 model.  Trutap CTO - Carl Uminski has 2 minutes in the morning to deliver our elevator pitch and to convince the audience and jury to vote trutap as one of the three finalists in the afternoon session.
